Across the country CWU members have said that the biggest issue the union should be tackling is job security. We agree. That’s why your CWU National Officials are fighting to block Ahmed Fahour’s proposals to “reform” the postal service.
Your National Officials have made it very clear – to Ahmed, to Minister Turnbull, and to anyone else who’ll listen, we think these reforms are no good. We know the world is changing, but the answer isn’t to offer half the service for twice the price… or to fatten up the parcels business for privatisation by trashing the traditional mail service.
Post agree that Ahmed’s plan will reduce the volume of mail, and jobs will go.
To fight back we commissioned a report by the “Australia Institute” that shows mail is not falling off a cliff. We are lobbying politicians to disallow Ahmed Fahour’s so-called “reforms”. We are building public support through our “Hands off Aussie Post” campaign.
And, importantly we have demanded from Post that there should be no forced redundancies without any qualification.
