Job Losses ahead

Contract change means Optus job losses

Optus will make 37 roles redundant following a decision by Toll Holdings to cancel an IT contract with the company.

In May this year, Toll Holdings chose Optus to undertake a complete overhaul and integration of IT systems across its businesses. The CWU understands that the contract was for some 5 years and that on this basis Optus recruited to meet the enlarged workforce needs.

On 13 November, however, Optus notified the CWU that the Toll project was now longer going ahead and that as a result 37 positions would be redundant. Of these 35 are in Victoria and 2 in NSW.

Optus says that they are actively examining redeployment options for these employees. Those who cannot be redeployed will be made redundant on 20 November.

These timelines are obviously very tight. Any Optus members wanting advice and/or representation in relation to these redundancies should contact their state branch immediately.
