pay cuts

How would a $6000 per year pay cut affect you?

How would a $6000 per year pay cut affect you and your family - your ability to pay your rent or mortgage, to pay for your child’s school fees, to put a decent plate of food on the table each night?

These are the questions playing out in the minds of thousands of retail and hospitality workers across the country right now after the Fair Work Commission today handed down a decision to cut weekend penalty rates.

The decision slashes the take-home pay of thousands of hospitality and retail workers by up to $6000 per year.

The overwhelming majority of CEPU members will not be immediately affected by this decision, but it may certainly effect their mothers, their fathers, their husbands, their wives, their sons, their daughters.

These are some of the lowest paid people in the country. They can’t afford this cut to their wages. Could you?

We can’t stand still and allow this to happen. It’s only a matter of time before the effects of this decision takes hold of EBA and contract negotiations across all industries and employer groups.

Malcolm Turnbull’s Government have the ability to legislate the protection of our take home pay. They need to act now.
