Unions to campaign against Abbott's agenda

Unions have agreed to fund a campaign against the Abbott government’s policies in the run-up to next year’s federal election.

The three-yearly congress of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) was held in Melbourne on 26-28 May. It approved a proposal that will see grass roots campaigning by unions in 30 marginal electorates.

The “Build a Better Future” campaign will publicise the dangers of the federal government’s industrial relations agenda which is designed to weaken workers’ organisations, drive down their wages and conditions and undermine job security.

But it will also focus on the Abbott government’s attacks on education, health and research funding and the threat its policies pose to retirement incomes.

Union members can start getting involved in this campaign now by going to the campaign website at http://www.australianunions.org.au/build_a_better_future.
