Following Telstra’s disgraceful announcement to shed up to 2,800 jobs by the end of the calendar year, the CWU has entered into consultation with Telstra in order to begin mitigating against the affects of this announcement on our members.
Within those job cuts, 377 potential redundancies have been identified within the Telstra Purple Pty Ltd subsidiary, where redundancy benefits are currently less generous than those provided to employees of other Telstra Group businesses.
As such, as part of the consultation process, the CWU has sought for Telstra to calculate any redundancy benefits applicable to affected members employed by Telstra Purple.
We are pleased to report to members the CWU has secured Telstra’s agreement to do just this and hope this outcome can provide some additional certainty to members during what would be a difficult time for most affected employees.
As part of the current EBA negotiation process, we will also be seeking to ensure Telstra Purple Pty Ltd employees will be covered by similar benefits in future potential redundancy situations.
We will continue to keep members updated as this matter progresses.
