CWU wrangles Ventia back into line

Following Ventia’s disgraceful behaviour in notifying 11 employees of redundancy, just 24 hours after notice that a restructure was on the cards, the company has been forced to put the brakes on.

Ventia was forced to front up for a conference before Commissioner Bisset yesterday, following an urgent application to the Fair Work Commission by the CWU

As a result of the Union’s intervention, the company will now be required to proceed in the following manner:

  • Potentially impacted employees can opt to receive a payout estimate and will have four days to consider the estimate and express interest in a voluntary redundancy package;
  • Any non-voluntary selections will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis – with Union involvement and representation, if requested by the employee;
  • Those who have so far genuinely volunteered for redundancy will not be affected by this change in process. They will shortly receive a payout estimate and will have a seven-day cooling off period, during which they can change their mind;
  • All individuals whose roles have been selected for redundancy will keep their phone and laptop until their termination date, which is likely to be 30 November 2022 with an additional notice period, paid in-lieu of employment.

Members can read the Commissioner’s statement in full by clicking here.

The Union will be holding a web conference with impacted CWU members on Friday, 11 November at 6pm (AEDT). If you have not yet received an invitation to attend, please contact your State Branch Office, for assistance.
