Van safety checks - meal breaks

Members would be aware of the software update Australia Post rolled out onto drivers’ scanners earlier this week.

This update has been rolled out without consultation.

Ironically, van safety checks have been subject to dispute on previous occasions, including where members were expected to carry out pseudo mechanical checks on vans.

On that occasion, we were able to drag Australia Post into this century to finally land on a sensible outcome.

So it has come as no surprise that some bright spark has decided to ignore their consultation obligations when pushing the go button on a convoluted software update which is not fit for purpose.

We all know that listening to workers who actually do the job has never been Australia Post’s strong point, but this is just ridiculous.

The CWU has raised the matter and is yet to receive a response from management.

Therefore, members are advised:

1.     Not to complete the convoluted check lists on their scanners; and
2.     Not to enter their break times into their scanners.

Members should either override the check list and complete the old manual checklist, if available, and override the provision to enter in break times.

Members will be advised if Australia Post ever bothers to respond to our concerns.

In the meantime, if you are subjected to any action by management for following the Union’s above advice, contact your local CWU State Office.
