At a lunch for the American chamber of commerce on Friday the CEO announced sweeping plans for extra Saturday services in Retail and Parcels, and the introduction of a second class stamp.
Mr Fahour also continued his tactic talking down the traditional mail service and continued to scaremonger on declining mail volumes.
Your Union had been given no indication that these changes were even being considered. The fact that the CEO announced these changes to a group of American businessmen, before you were made aware of such proposals, beggars belief.
Fahour’s unilateral statements is not only a breach of EBA consultation provisions but also a gross insult to you.
Obviously we welcome any expansion of Australia Post services and have been lobbying politicians of all persuasions for expansion of services nationally. We also welcome the opportunity for members to earn additional income and provision of extra full time quality jobs.
However there are potentially many areas of concern and there is no indication of how any proposals would work logistically. Members can well imagine any problems associated with the proposals.
We have written to Australia Post this morning seeking immediate information. We will also be seeking a firm commitment that such “Consultation via media” cease forthwith.
If such a commitment is not forthcoming we will be seeking others ways to ensure that Members are not treated with such contempt.
Stay tuned for further bulletins on the issues and feel free to forward your comments
