Mail Officer at MGF

Mail officers at MGF concerned about changes to work

Mail officers at the Melbourne Gateway Facility (MGF) are concerned that Post intends to unilaterally make changes to their work.  The changes would require workers to perform x-ray screening of mail and parcels. Previously, this work was undertaken by another company.

Workers are very concerned about safety issues such as, exposure to radiation associated with the x-ray equipment, safe work durations, training on the new equipment and payment for the performance of the potentially more complex and specialised work.

The CWU has represented the issue locally. The union will also raise the issue at the nationally with Post.
