CWU win for members at Townsville mail centre

Australia Post has confirmed that Townsville Mail Centre, Qld will get some proper lifting equipment in response to local union and CWU national representations about the lack of equipment to assist workers with the movement of heavy and/or oversized parcels.

In addition Australia Post has agreed to a review on the rotation of tasks at the Townsville MC to ensure that workers are not spending a full shift performing parcel lifting duties. The NIOSH method for assessment of manual handling risks will form part of the review. The local JCC will be involved too. Australia Post has also confirmed that task rotation occurs at Cairns, Mackay and Rockhampton when asked the question why would work practices in Townsville be different to other regional/rural workplaces?
