The consultation process for updating the Field Services Core Job Descriptions is progressing with increased momentum. Telstra’s information-gathering survey, which was sent out approximately two weeks ago, has received around 300 responses The data will continue to be refined and analysed and be used to verify the accuracy of the job descriptions within Field Services. Additionally, a Union survey will soon be distributed to gather specific information about individual duties relative to an individual’s banding.
In recent meetings with Telstra representatives, the Union discussed the importance of determinations related to fibre-based work. Telstra has acknowledged this as a key area and has agreed to prioritise this work first. The commitment to continue discussions into the new year includes the following steps:
By mid-to-late January, Telstra will provide a proposed draft of core jobs for the CFW Installer Repairer roles (Bands 4, 5, and 7) for review and feedback. This draft will be based on feedback received to date, as well as learnings drawn from the Magistrates Court judgement in which the Union successfully argued for the upgrade of a Telstra employee. The 90-page judgement provides thorough analysis of the duties of the individual against the core job descriptions and is a source of analysis for job on the Fibre Network. These roles are a priority as they represent the largest group of Field Services employees. The wider CFW will be addressed following this initial stage.
The Union will continue to pursue Telstra on behalf of members who are performing the same or very similar functions to those identified in the court case who are not appropriately graded. Our survey will further help identify members who would benefit from this representation, separate from the broader CFW Core Jobs review. As this process evolves, we expect Telstra to begin honouring the payment of higher duties, or upgrades, as the case may be, for individual members that meet the threshold established by the court case.
Ensuring proper alignment with the appropriate banding is crucial for fair and equitable compensation for all members, and this remains our top priority. Meetings will resume early in the new year, with regular progress updates shared with you.
If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact your Union representative.
