Today, Leroy Lazaro will walk out of the Victorian Branch Office for the final time as he farewells his team upon resigning as Branch Secretary.
Leroy has been a member of the CWU for 27 years and represented his members as an Official for the past 13 years.
Over the years, we haven’t always seen eye to eye on the way we have approached matters. However, despite these differences, my admiration for Leroy’s ultimate motivation to significantly improve the working lives of his members is where we have found the common ground needed to ensure that the Branch and the National Office have worked effectively together to ensure we have delivered the very best possible outcomes for CWU members across Victoria.
Throughout his time as Victorian Branch Secretary, he has been a valued member of the CWU leadership team. I am proud to have had the opportunity to collaborate with him across some of our most important EBAs, and some of our members’ hardest ever fought industrial fights and I am genuinely saddened by his departure.
On behalf of the CWU National Divisional Executive, we wish Leroy all the very best in the next chapter of his professional life.
Furthermore, we note that the Victorian Branch Committee of Management has appointed current Branch Organiser Troy McGuiness to succeed Leroy as Branch Secretary and congratulate him on this great honour.
Leroy has left big shoes to fill, but having also worked quite extensively with Troy over the years, I am confident he will lead the Branch to new strengths and continue the great work of his predecessor in delivering the very best outcomes for members of the Victorian Branch.
