We are unsure at this stage if the story was leaked by Australia Post to help with their softening up campaign of the Australia Public to accept reduced services
or whether the story was leaked by someone else.
We will be meeting today with Australia Post on this issue.
The reports indicate that 900 Jobs will be slashed with Melbourne and Sydney to be affected with the majority of Jobs in Melbourne.
Jobs that are reportedly on the block include “non-customer facing “admin, management/supervisory staff and IT”
Your Union does not accept that such drastic cuts are necessary at this stage and that natural attrition would be a better way to progress any Job losses.
Australia Post is already lean although there is some fat at Executive level that could be cut.
We accept that mail volumes are falling but we do not accept the CEO’s assertions that mail volumes will decline by 50% in the next 2 years.
and Media reports that Post will lose $15 Billion by 2022 are ridiculous.
Part of the CEO’s tactics seem to be around talking down the traditional service at every opportunity
In Europe recent studies have actually shown a slowing of the decline in mail volumes.
We will keep you informed on events as they occur
