job losses ahead

Optus announces more redundancies

Optus has told the CWU that 70 positions in its Financial Services section in Adelaide will be made redundant.

The redundancies come as a result of Optus’ decision to partially automate its credit risk management functions through the use of an SMS message system, Adeptra, to contact customers about unpaid bills.

Optus says it intends the transition to the new system to take several months with the redundancies taking place over that period up until the end of November. This will allow for redeployment options to be explored and provide some time for employees to seek work outside Optus.

Optus advises that 12 employees have already been redeployed.

Affected employees finding new jobs outside the company between now and November will, of course, still be eligible for redundancy payments as will those employees who have already secured new employment.

Members uncertain of their options or their entitlements should contact the CWU South Australian branch.
